My grandmother Jessie was famous for this banana cake, and friends and family always requested it at holidays and birthdays. I remember the excitement of sleeping over her house and having her serve a piece just for me.

Makes 12-18 cupcakes

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes

When I was growing up, my friend's mom always made a great after school snack called "Surprise Cupcakes". What looked like an unassuming plain chocolate cupcake was actually filled with a yummy filling. Later on I learned they were called Black Bottom cupcakes as well, but I think Surprise Cupcakes is more fun. Either way they are soooo good and a bit forgotten in time.

Serves 8-12

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes

I learned to make this easy recipe when I was a Brownie many moons ago. You may have seen it as "Monkey Bread" where you stack all the biscuits, but we placed them in a circle in the pan and called it a Cinnamon Ring. Either way, it's easy enough for the younger kids to make and great on a cold holiday morning.

Serves: 4-6 depending on size of steak

Cook Time: 15minutes

When I was a kid I hated skirt steak, or stringy beef as I called it. Well something must have changed along the years because now I crave it...and it really isn't stringy at all. This recipe is one of my favorites and is always a hit at family gatherings or just routine dinners. Surprisingly the kids love it too.

Serves: 4 -6 people

In my opinion, Crock Pots get a bum rap. While some people are infatuated with - or confused by - the appliance, many think any meal cooked in it becomes an indistinguishable mush that even Oliver Twist would pass up.

While I am not particularly known for my culinary skills, I am proud of three "Jewish Mama" recipes that are in high demand by my children and family: noodle kugle for Shabbat, Honey Cake for Rosh Hashanah, and Hamantashen for Purim, which this year begins on March 13th.
