Birthday Parties

In the Bag is a monthly column (we've missed a few months -- oops) where we give you a list of suggested items to have on hand in a variety of situations and locales. This month's list was sent to us by reader Debra Navratil of San Jose, California. We've added a few of our own ideas to Debra's list which we think you'll find helpful on your child's special day.

Throwing a birthday party can often seem like a major organizational feat. So much going on and so much to remember. If the party is at home, a forgotten item is easy to grab from inside, but a birthday party off site is another story.

Class Recipe Book Template

When it comes to teacher gifts, many classes choose to simply have parents chip in and give the teacher a gift certificate. Very nice for the teacher, but not exactly a good participation event for the kids. So why not include this easy to make Class Recipe Book along with the gift certificate.

Encourage each family to discuss the recipe choice with their child and either submit a special family recipe or one of their child's favorite recipes and title it as such. They should also affix a picture of their child in the space provided on the template.

Holiday Gift To Make - Game Pads

We've taken three time honored games, Tic Tac Toe , Hangman and Connect the Dots, and turned them into a great personalized holiday gift you can make yourself. Use our Game Pad templates below or free draw your own to personalize your games. Then have them copied, cut and coil bound at your local print shop.

Our templates have color titles but we only printed them in color for the title page, because color copies and printer ink are so expensive. We printed the rest of the pad in black and white on our home printer and had the pads cut and bound at our local print shop. Our cost was $12 for a 3 pad set with 100 pages each.

One of the best ways to keep your life organized is by making a list of everything you need to do. I've always been a big list maker, but I used to end up with several lists on different post-its all around the house. But now I use one master list with everything I need to know for the coming week. Schedules, to do lists, calls, gifts to buy, playdates -- all on one list.

We've provided a template for your own Weekly To Do List below. Simply download the List (MS word document) and then personalize it with your name at the top. You can also change any of the categories to fit your daily routine.
