Heart Paperweight

This cute paperweight project immortalizes those conversation heart candies beyond Valentines Day and sends a little message of affection to your loved ones. Great for your kids to make and give to moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas.

White Crayola Model Magic Modeling Compound
Finger Paint
Paint Brushes
Spoon or Small Ice Cream Scoop
Large Heart shaped cookie cutter

Roll a big clump of Crayola Model Magic into a ball and then flatten out to approximately 1 1/2" thick.

Using a cookie cutter to cut out the desired number of hearts.

Use a Small Ice Cream Scoop or spoon to scoop out a well in the center of the heart approximately 3/4" deep and half the diameter of your heart. Save clay.

Fill the well in your heart with pennies to give the heart its weight.

Cover the pennies and close up the well using the clay you scooped out. To get the neatest look, roll clay into ball, flatten out, and push over pennies making a sort of seal. Don't push too hard or you will lose the shape of your heart.

Use the knife to "imprint" the message you are going to paint on the top of heart.

Leave your heart to dry for 3 days. You want it to be completely dry or the paint will crack.

When heart is dry, paint it. Try and match the pastel colors of the real message hearts. When background color is dry, write your valentine message in red.

Let dry. Wrap and present to your loved one.
