Dear Readers,
January 1st and New Year's Resolutions seem almost synonymous, but did you know that the New Year used to be celebrated on the vernal equinox, March 20th? Makes sense as this also marks the beginning of spring, a time when as the New York Times points out you "can feel the newness of the year about to burst out of the ground."
It also makes practical sense in that it that it gives one a chance to make good on their new year's resolution in a more realistic manner. Going cold turkey on sugar, smoking, carbs, apathy, coach-potatohood or whatever your vice is usually only lasts for a brief idealistic moment of time.
By celebrating the new year on the vernal equinox, you can set your new year's resolutions on January 1st and then work hard to make good on them by March. One day at a time, in small realistic bites. A better recipe for success if you ask me.
So on that note, momready.com is ramping up to "I'm back". No fan fare. No stress. Just an easy slide back into my old ways of writing.
Not sure what it will exactly look like yet but I do know a few things for sure:
It will not be 5 days a week. It will have no store. It will talk more about the education crisis and other parent issues. It will be more personal. I will take me a good while to upgrade the site (i.e. old links may not work). I will be using social media more frequently than posting formal articles. I will be asking for your thoughts and opinions.
So there it is. You can find my slow return here at momready.com, but also in variable bursts at our Facebook page and on Twitter .
Hope you will join me and add in to the conversation... and please spread the word.
Wishing you and your families a happy and healthy new year!
Warm regards, Elisa
