When I was a kid, tetherball was all the rage.  I played until my pinky fingers were red and swollen -- oh, how I loved that game.  So when my kids were old enough I bought them a set to introduce them to tetherball, and okay I'll admit, enjoy my past love once again.  

But there was one problem...where to put the set and how to secure it in the ground.  To secure the set so it didn't lean or tip during heated play, I would need to use cement and that meant wherever I chose would be permanent.  So I hemmed and hawed about the location, and meanwhile the tetherball set sat in the box for a couple months.

And then I saw the solution at my friend Sara's house.  A homemade moveable stand for the tetherball pole.  Made out of an old tire and some cement, this turned out to be pure genius.  Now I can wheel the court around whenever I need to, keeping it front and center for playtime and on the side of the house during parties, or when I need the space it occupies.

Although it looks like a pain to make, it was really quite simple.  I picked up the tetherball set at the toy store,  got an old tire from a local gas station for free, and a few supplies at the hardware store.  Once you are done, you'll just have to let it sit overnight to harden, and then you're ready to play.

SUPPLIES
Old tire
Bag of cement
Plastic mixing trough
Large plastic trash bag
Shovel

INSTRUCTIONS
Lay the old tire down on top of a plastic trash bag.  Make sure the bag completely covers the area under the tire.

Pour the bag of cement into your plastic trough and mix with water according to the directions.  Use the shovel for mixing.

Once the cement is thoroughly mixed, let it set a few minutes and then shovel it into the center of the tire.  Make sure to fill the well of the tire all the way around.

Next, stick the tetherball pole, without rope and ball attached, into center of cement filled tire.  You may need to let the cement set a little while to hold the pole straight.

Let cement harden overnight.  

Attach rope and tetherbal, roll to location desired, and you are ready to play.
