When I was in the first grade I was the queen of hopscotch at my school. I played everyday at recess and even practiced at home with a chalk outline version. But oh how I would have loved my own permanent hopscotch court at home. It's a little late for me, but this summer I'm helping my kids make their own, and you can too!
Simply buy cement square stepping stones (18" x 18") at your local home and garden center and then install them in a hopscotch pattern in a grass or dirt area in your yard. Chalk out the outline first so you have a template and then dig down the same depth as that of the stones. I heartily encourage you to have your kids help with the digging as well.
Next, place the stones in the hole and fill the edges with dirt and then tamp the stones down to hold secure.
The stones shown at right are bare, but buy some permanent paint in bright colors and have them decorate each stone with numbers and a decorative border.
With this homemade project your kids will definitely crown you queen of the hopscotch court!
