Fun things you can make using digital photography.
The Favorite Color Chart is a great project on many fronts. Not simply a family tree, this project introduces your child to color recognition and the relation between the extended members of their family. It can also provide a great introduction to phone etiquette if you have your child call each person on the poster to find out their favorite color.
When the poster is completed hang in prominent place where your child can see it daily. They will love not only recognizing each person, but also comparing all the different favorite colors. Help the little ones learn their colors by asking them questions about color ("What is Grandma Wendy's favorite color"). Teach the older ones about their family tree by asking questions regarding relations ("Who is mommy's daddy?")
SUPPLIES
White poster board or large sheet of construction paper Photos of family members Colored markers or crayons Glue
INSTRUCTIONS
Cut or have your child cut out pictures of all the members of your family. Be sure to include extended family.
Glue pictures on the poster board with your child's (or children's) picture at the top and the members of your family below to make a family tree. Make sure to leave enough room for a box below each picture.
Draw lines between the pictures to further show how each person is related.
When pictures and boxes are in place. Have your child call everyone pictured and ask them their favorite colors. As each response is received ask your child to color in the box below the person's picture with their favorite color. Don't worry about neatness here, especially with your toddlers.
