Kids  :   Baby Gifts

I don't know about you, but it seems like all of my friends are having babies right now, and for most of them it's number three... or four.  Buying a gift for the second or third time mom isn't always as simple as pulling up a gift registry.  Even for first time parents, you may want a more unique gift.

Below find a list of our favorite baby gift ideas.  Some are practical, some just for fun, but all will be much appreciated by the new parents.

May Papers Books
A baby book is the most traditional of baby gifts, but finding one you like is often difficult.  Most books don't have enough prompts for the information you want to record.  Well not so with these two great books by Tracey Clark.

The Baby of Mine book not only has space for all baby's firsts,  but also a monthly journal where you can jot down baby's changes as well as your own. Plus, there's a spot to jot down your daily routine.  Not just a record keeper, but a really nice memory keeper as well.

A version called Waiting For Baby is also available for the expectant mother, and has the same attention to detail for the mom-to-be's journey toward motherhood.

Lullaby Light Show
Light up baby's life with one of my favorite baby gifts, the Lullaby Light Show.  This great lamp sends colored animals around the room mesmerizing baby -- a great way to calm a cranky baby and hopefully send them into a long deep sleep.  I can't think of a better gift for sleep deprived parents.

Fuzzy Dog Rug
My kids both loved to lay around on this furry plush pup.  As a baby it was just a comfy place to lay baby down, as a toddler obsessed with animals,  it was a good friend to talk to.  Finally, as my kids got older they used it as a comfy reading spot.  Flip it over and find velvety-fleece and satin paws, all of which is machine washable. Great gift.

Nursing Shawls
This is the nicest nursing shawl we've ever come across.  It's stylish, lightweight and incredibly soft.  Plus it's machine washable - very important.  The poncho comes in a small handy sack, but you'll like it so much you'll end up wearing it even when you're not nursing.  Also doubles as a stroller cover and baby blanket.

Growth Chart
For years I admired a friend's growth chart that had a small piece you could slide up as your child grew, but couldn't find it in the stores.  I finally found this updated version and think it makes a terrific baby gift.

Matching Jammies
One of my favorite baby gifts to give a family with 2 or more kids is matching pajamas for the new baby and the older siblings.  Not only does it make for a great picture but also supports the idea of  "we're all one big family now", which for some siblings can take a little getting used to.  Can you imagine the great family picture with everyone in these matching jammies?  Add pairs for mom and dad too if you dare!

FLATOUTbear
I saw this little bear at a trade show and just fell in love with him (or her?).  Handmade from Australian sheepskin, this plush is, as its name purports, flat -- great for little ones to hug and lay on.  Once he's home, FLATOUTbear is sure to be your child's first lovey.

Me Too Mommy
For many women it's a cinch to keep the baby book current, jotting down each milestone right when it happens.  For others of us, and especially after our second child, actually keeping an accurate record takes a little more doing.  With less time, and a toddler running around, it's hard enough to find the book let alone have a minute to jot down baby's latest feats.  Solution?  Me Too Mommy -- a purse sized version baby book that you can take with you and jot down milestones while you are on the go.  Insures that you won't have to face a lifetime of  "why didn't you write anything in my baby book?"

Sock Hop
Why is it always impossible to find the right matching sock?   I don't know, but with this set of brightly colored baby socks you are sure to at least increase the odds in your favor.  Made of preshrunk 100% cotton and rubberized soles to prevent slipping, this cleverly packaged gift set is always met with ooohs and aaahs.
