Each month we'll give you a list of suggested items to have on hand in a variety of situations and locales.
Below find a list of things that are good to have in your car at all times. My motto is be ready for anything, which in this case could mean an allergic reaction, a splinter, a needed ponytail holder for soccer, or a playdate’s phone number when I get lost on the way to pick my child up.
Here are the basics:
Copy of your phone book or important contact numbers Class Lists Diapers Portable Potty Seat (with extra Ziploc bags). Ponytail holders First Aid Kit Instant Cold Compress (for head bumps/sports injuries) Tweezers Nail Clipper Children’s Benadryl (for food allergy or bee sting) Kaolectrolyte packets (add to water to protect from dehydration) Cortisone Cream Sunscreen Thermometer Children’s/Infant & Adult Tylenol or Advil Roll of Toilet Paper Roll of Paper Towels Box of Tissue Antibacterial Wipes Beach Towel Water Sharpie Post-Its Ball Point pen Scissors Whistle Extra Cash Hat (for you and kids) Chewing Gum Diapers Extra Change of Clothes and socks (for you and child) Small toys to keep kids occupied Bubbles Maps (good diversion for kids too) Plastic Ziploc bags Trash Bags Towel Whistle Flashlight
This may sound like a lot, but if you put like items in separate containers it really doesn’t take up much room at all.
TIP: Use an empty tissue box as a mini trash can for the car.
